Research Note
A genetic relationship is confident based on a Gedmatch test match between Martha Mowery and her fifth cousin once removed James Tarleton based on sharing 39.2cM across 2 segments. Their most-recent common ancestors are their fourth great grandparents Stephen Jackson and Nancy Kendrick. This research is continuing by contacting 49 other ancestry.com matches to James who descended from these MRCAs. When a third match is found on this chromosome segment, the resulting triangulation will provide DNA verification of this line. The significance of this match is it shows Stephen Jackson and/or Nancy Kendrick were ancestors of James Tarleton.
DNA
Paternal relationship is confirmed through Y-chromosome DNA testing of James Waterman Tarleton, haplogroup R-M269, FTDNA kit #939016, and his second cousin once removed Benjamin Franklin Crawford haplogroup R-Y81777, FTDNA kit #428771, who match at a genetic distance of 1 on 111 markers, thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their MRCA Michael Crawford. FTDNA indicated the probability the two men share a common ancestor within the last 4 generations is 84.41% and within the last 5 generations is 91.37%.
Paternal relationship is confirmed by an autosomal gedmatch test match between James Tarleton and his first cousin Barbara Jean Tarleton with Rosemary (Crawford) Miller, their 2nd cousin once removed. Their most-recent common ancestor isĀ Michael Crawford, the great great grandfather of James Tarleton and great grandfather of Rosemary (Crawford) Miller. Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 5.3, based on sharing 23.2 and 13.7 cM respectively across 2 and 1 segments respectively.
