Biography

Grafton Wenden Tarleton was born in Mobile, Alabama, on 5 March 1863. He was a son of Horace Tarleton and Ruth Ann (Barstow) Tarleton. [1]

Grafton W. Tarleton married Mary Isabel Pike in Hanover, New Hampshire, on 13 March 1884. He was 21 years old and a farmer, born in Mobile, Alabama, and living in Lebanon, New Hampshire; she was 26 years old, born in Hanover and living there. It was the first marriage for both. The marriage record identifies his parents as Horace Tarleton, born in Piermont, New Hampshire, with occupation Empire Cotton Press, and Anna Barstow, also born in Piermont. The bride was the daughter of Monroe Pike, a farmer, and a mother born in Vermont; those are the only details for her parents included in the record. They were married by clergyman S.P. Leeds of Hanover.[2]

Grafton W. Tarleton married Ruth H. Stone in the town of Hartford, Vermont, on 26 February 1902. They were married by Charles Ernest White, minister of the Congregational Church in Wilder, Vermont (a village in the town of Hartford). According to the marriage record, he was a son of Horace Tarleton and Ruth Anna Barstow, born in Mobile, Alabama. He was 37 years old and a merchant, living in Hartford, Vermont. This was his second marriage.[3]
