Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Selena (Tarver) Taswell is a part of US Black heritage.

Selena was born in 1844. She passed away in 1939.

Salena Taswell was interviewed about 1936 in Miami, Florida. She was a member of the "Ex Slave Club." [1]

"This club now claims twenty-five members, all over 88 years of age."

"Salena Taswell, 364 NW 8th St., Miami, Florida, is one of the oldest ex-slave women in Florida."

"Ole Dr. Jameson, he wuz my Massy. He had a plantation three mile from Perry, Georgia."

Salena Taswell's remembrances include visits to Dr. Jameson from Abraham Lincoln.

Interview

Salena Taswell was interviewed in Miami, Florida as part of the Federal Writer's Project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The results are made available by the Library of Congress. [2]
