Joseph Tatnall supported the patriots through supplies of food, etc. during the American Revolution. He as a Quaker businessman who forwarded the expansion of the Brandywine as a milling center in the 1770s. He married 31 Jan 1765 to Elizabeth Lea (1743–1805). Their daughter Sarah married miller Thomas Lea (1757–1823).
