Biography

Nancy Taylor, daughter of Thomas Taylor and Eleanor Dodson, was born in Chatham County, North Carolina, in 1764. Nancy married Benjamin Beal in Chatham County, NC, about 1781. According to a joint death notice in the Springfield Advertiser newspaper (Springfield, Greene County, Missouri), Benjamin Beal, “aged 80 years,” died 13 August 1844, and Mrs. Nancy Beal, “aged 80 years, consort of Benj. Beal,” died 14 August 1844.[1]

In November 1797, Eleazar Andrews appeared before the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in Chatham County, North Carolina, on behalf of Greenham Taylor, Nancy (Taylor) Beal, Raney (Taylor) McDaniel, and Tabitha (Taylor) Johnson, all identified as surviving children of Thomas Taylor. Andrews presented and proved Power of Attorney instruments signed by Greenham Taylor, Benjamin Beal (in right of his wife Nancy), Linvill McDaniel (in right of his wife Raney), and William Johnson (in right of his wife Tabitha) that authorized “Our Brother Billington” to act in their interests for the purpose of obtaining their portions of the estate of their sibling Judith Taylor (and daughter of Thomas Taylor), deceased.[2]
