In the 1861 census Thomas (age 4) was the son of William Taylor in Tanfield, Durham, England.[2]
SUDDEN DEATH AT KARANGAHAKE. Inspector Wright has received a telegram from Waihi, stating that Thomas Taylor, a miner, aged 55 years, dropped dead at Karangahake this morning, while hurrying to catch the early train to Waihi to visit his wife, who is in the hospital there. Dr Craig, who had been attending deceased for some time, certified to the cause of death as syncope, and no inquest will be held.
