Robert was born 7 Dec 1633 in Clatterwich, Cheshire, England and was christened on 15 Dec 1633 at Great Budworth Parish Church in Little Leigh, Cheshire, England. [1] His birth location has also been described as Clutterwick, Little Leigh, County Palatine of Chester.[2]
He was the eldest son of Thomas Taylor and Mary Barrow. [1] All of his siblings were christened at Great Budworth Parish Church, except the youngest who was born about 1649. [1] This probably indicates the timing of his parents' new association with the Quakers, or Society of Friends.
Penalized for practicing his Quaker religion: "Robert Taylor, of Clutterwick, in Cheshire, and twenty-eight others, were indicted at the Quarter Sessions in Chester, January. 1662, for “unlawfully assembling together at the House of John Dove in Coddington within the County aforesaid, the 19th Day of November last past, upon Pretence of joining together in religious Worship of God.” For this offence they were fined two pounds and ten shillings each, and refusing to pay were sent to prison for three months."[2]
Robert Taylor married in 1663 in a Quaker ceremony in Little Leigh Cheshire England to Mary Hayes, the daughter of Margaret (Merrick) and Jonathan Hayes.[1]
In 1682 Robert sailed from Liverpool, England, aboard the ship "Concord" and arrived at Philadelphia on the "Seventh Month 29, 1683".[1] His wife Mary followed with six of their children aboard the ship "Endeavour of London".
He made his last Will on 24 April 1695.[1]
Robert died in the spring of 1695 in Springfield Twp, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
His last Will was proved on 16 May 1695.[1]
His widow Mary married secondly on 31 March 1701 to Joseph Selby.[1]
