Biography

Birth

John Taylor "the Younger" was probably born in England between the births of his brothers Arthur and Robert, possibly in about 1649. He was the son of John Taylor.[1] As discussed in the Research Notes, his mother was probably Margarett (___).

Emigration

John Taylor migrated from England to Maryland.
Flag of Maryland

John Taylor "the Younger" emigrated from England to the Province of Maryland in about March 1659, with his father (John Taylor "the Elder") and three siblings: Arthur, Robert, and Mary.[1]

Father's Will

John's father John Taylor the Elder made his noncupative will in Baltimore County, Province of Maryland, on 21 February 1675/6, and John is not mentioned in the will. The will was proved on 5 April 1676, and recorded in Baltimore County on 19 May 1676.[2] A full transcription of the will is contained in the Research Notes for the profile for John Taylor.

Death

There is no clear record referring to this John Taylor after his emigration to Baltimore County with his father and siblings in March 1659, and his absence from his father's will in February 1675/6 suggests he probably died before the will was made, most likely in Baltimore County, Province of Maryland.

Research Notes

Estimated Date

The birth year estimate of "about 1649" assumes that he was the second of three sons transported by John Taylor the Elder, based on the order they were listed in the 1659 land warrant entry.[1] The basis for the age estimates for his brothers are explained in their profiles, both based on later Baltimore County land transactions.

Disambiguation

There are several references to a John Taylor closely associated with this Taylor family along Gunpowder River beginning in the 1690s, but those likely refer to this John's nephew John Taylor, son of this John's brother Arthur.
