Obituary

The Late Mr Abram Taylor For many years a respected resident of Marks Tey where he was for nearly half a century in the service of the London and North Eastern Railway as porter, shunter and latterly, station foreman, Mr Taylor passed peacefully away at his residence, 4 New Town, Kelvedon, on May 1st, in his 68th year. Mr Taylor joined the service of the then Great Eastern Railway in 1881, commencing his duties at Great Bentley and subsequently being transferred to Chappel, and from there to Marks Tey. Much liked and greatly respected by all who knew him and particularly by his fellow workmen, he retired in March 1929, under the age limit and took up residence at Kelvedon. The funeral took place at Marks Tey Wesleyan cemetery on May 5th amid many manifestations of sympathy and respect. Rev J Asquith Baker (Superintendent Minister of the Colchester Wesleyan circuit) officiated, and at the ante grave service in the chapel the hymn "Abide with me" was sung, Miss Hyam being at the organ. Six former colleagues on the MarksTey station staff acted as bearers, and as the cortege left the chapel the organist played the "Dead March" in "Saul". The mourners were the widow, the three sons and two daughters (all of whom passed through the Marks Tey Wesleyan Sunday School under the superintendency of Mr W H Collier, JP), a son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, Mrs F Nookes (sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs F Isom (brother-in-law and sister), Mr and Mrs F Wilsher (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Messrs W and H Wilsher (nephews), Mrs Blunden (niece), Mr and Mrs Patten (Marks Tey) and Mr Osmond (Kelvedon). The many beautiful floral tributes were from the following:- his sorrowing wife and family; Ethel and Percy; his seven grandchildren; Maureen, Daphne and David; Eliza and George; all at 27, St Mary's Road, Colchester; all at Earl's Colne and Chelmsford; Harry, Edith and Reggie; Fred, Hannah and family; Ella; Mr and Mrs W Patten and Stan; Mr Macdonald and Mac; Miss Gibbs and Mrs Willard; all at 22 Bernard Road, Wallington; Mr and Mrs Wyatt and family; Mrs Rowland; Reg and Maud; and the staff of Marks Tey station.
