I see the comment that the American Greer DNA does not match the Greer and Grierson of Scotland. I descend from James Greer of gunpowder maryland. He is my 9th great grand father. Myself, my brother and nephew have been tested. I have been tested at the highest level on familytree DNA. I share DNA matches with Alpin Macgregor the historic Clan Chief and todays Clan Chief Malcolm Macgregor. I am 10 steps from todays chief but we do show up as a match. I have the SNP R-M123 which I believe is older than the M456 that I believe most Macgregors carry today. I also carry the gene R1b-L1335 which is very old. I'm still working on things but I believe we can now say that we come from a very old bloodline.
We're doing our semi-annual check-in to ask whether you have made contributions to the project in the last six months?
Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the 1776 Project that you respond to this check-in. Please post your response as a reply to this message on your page, for convenience of record keeping.
Yes, I am still adding the St' John's/St. George's Parish Register. some of it is in the 1800s but it jumps back to 1740s and beyond but yes.. thank you I also today asked a question on G2G regarding "How to help" the project and adding the 481 needs Bios........ to be on the project page. thank you
It’s Germany Project check-in time again! Please respond within the next 2 weeks and let me know if you’re still interested in participating with the Project. Remember, the only requirements for membership in the Germany Project are (1) that you work on at least one German profile every 6 months and (2) that you respond to this check-in.
Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. In your response, we welcome any feedback you may want to give on the project (what you like about it, what you’d like to see us do, what we could change, etc.)
If you ever have any questions, please ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:
If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, Just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.
Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project
IF I didn't respond before I am doing it again.......... Yes I am Irish descendant and want to stay on the Project. Sorry there are so many Comments on my page...... I try to delete and keep it clean to no avail...
When we didn't hear from you we assumed you were no longer interested in being part of the project, and pulled your badge. I'm happy to reissue one for you, but you'll need to message me privately to let me know your email address, what team(s) you'd like to work on, and whether you would like an invitation to the google group, discord, or both.
Hi Carole, Please add the G2G tag GERMANY to your list of followed tags. You can add new tags by going to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following and scrolling down to "Add new Tags". Add Germany in the tag name box, add a couple spaces in the comments box, then hit "Enter New Tag" and you'll be set. Thanks, Traci
The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team who guide new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team. Please let us know which team(s) you would like to participate in.
For those of you who joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018, we would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you plan to join the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If you’re at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.
We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (When you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID). You will find more information on the GoogleGroup.
We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:
Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.
We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.
I work on any profile I happen to pull up in my searches for people already on wikitree. fix states, and clean up gedcom stuff...
add a source or add unsourced. thank you
Hi Carole, a couple of weeks ago I sent out a check-in for the US Civil War Project, this is just a quick reminder to let me know if you intend to remain in the Project. Hope to hear from you soon. I'll assume your not interested if I don't hear back from you by the end of February. Thank you.
P Kreutzer, US Civil War Between the States Project Leader
Hi Carole, I just wanted to thank you for all the work you've done to improve the US Civil War Between the States Project. I'm doing a check-in with all project members and wanted to verify that you're still interested in being a member of the project. Also, any suggestions for the Project would be welcome. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
P Kreutzer, US Civil War Between the States Project Leader.
It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!
This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.
We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:
If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general
We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.
Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!
Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders
oh my, no don't think I signed up for a Team? Tartan Trail? no, but yes sounds interesting. I will look into the Project category space and see what I can do. for the last year off/on I have been adding a Baltimore Maryland Parish Register, dated 1700-1850.. surprising how many profiles are unsourced............ so I just felt it needed to be done. I am almost 1/2 way thru the 1164 images. sorry it is not Scotland but I bet a lot of the people came from Scotland.
On behalf of the leaders of Southern Colonies, this is the semi-annual polling for the US Southern Colonies Project. This check-in with members is to see if you have been active in the last six months in this project and want to remain a member of US SC?
Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the US Southern Colonies Project that you respond to these check-ins.
I look forward to hearing from you.. Many thanks,
Mary, Project Coordinator, - Membership US Southern Colonies Project
oh yes, I am still adding sources from the St. John's Parish Joppa Register. It is amazing how many profiles have no sources at all. and trying to link as many as I feel are true.... and I added my bio to the project page today.
I just wanted to touch base with you and see if you have any questions about the Germany Project. Have you read the main Project page? Do you have any questions or suggestions? Most of the info you need will be linked to the main Project page here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Germany and I am always available to answer questions.
You have not yet joined our Google Group and you can ask questions there as well as on G2G. To join the Google Group, please click this link: https://groups.google.com/g/wikitreegermanroots and request to join.
Thanks also for being a long-time member of the Volga Germans (now a team under the Germany Project).
I am checking in on behalf of the 1776 Project to announce the new project membership requirements and to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. All project members are being asked to join one of the project teams and also to make at least one project contribution every 6 months. We are also asking all project members to join the project's Google Group for project communications.
If you are interested in remaining with the Project, please reply to this comment or send me a message, request to join the Google Group, and let us know what team you would like to participate on.
We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions, please ask. We would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project.
If we don't hear back from you we will assume that you no longer wish to participate in the project and if so, you could rejoin at any time as is convenient for you.
Hi, I asked to join the google group "1776" and I am already on the military google group I get all the email daily.
I have been a member of 1776, since 2015. I am a DAR in Smoky Hill Trail chapter, Colorado. I would prefer to be on the TEAM: Profile Improvement, I think I can do best there. The Boston Tea Party is already on my desktop to make sure all persons are on wikitree.. As soon as I finish adding all ENTRIES of the St. John's Parish Joppa, Maryland 1700-1800 Register, 1164 images and I am on #451... A lot of them are Am Rev War... Taylor-25258
On behalf of the US Southern Colonies Project Leaders, I am doing a check-in with members to see if you were Active in US Southern Colonies in the last two months?
I had contacted all Southern Colonies members via the Google Group. This is a follow-up message to you.
They were minor gentry: not nobility, but they used the same coat of arms as the Heathcotes from Brampton and Buxton, which suggests a connection which has yet to be found. Legend has it that the arms were granted by Richard I at the siege of Acre, but they were not recorded by the College of Arms or in any of the Visitations. The Derby Heathcotes came to prominence during the Commonwealth, as Clerks to the Commissioners for the Borough of Derby. (The Chesterfield Heathcotes were also noted for their republican sympathies.)
Now that I am back home, I will add expanding their biographies to my "to-do" list.
As part of a re-vitalization of the WikiTree US Presidents Project we are asking members if they are planning to continue their contributions to the project. We are establishing a page where everyone can identify the President or Vice President that they wish to manage. Just respond to this message to let me know 1) Are you planning to continue with the Project and 2) do you have a specific President or Vice President that you are interested in.
Thanks, Betty
