Biography

During he depression; Brother Delma, Richard and later Clarence would travel through the valley from Madison to Harrisonburg up into Pennsylanvania working on farms to earn money. Delmar was known as a non swimmer but was found drowned in A River outside of the town limits of Standardsville, Greene County, Virginia. The Coroners report attributed the death to his being an alcoholic, but, He was deathly afraid of water because of a previous near drowning event.

Delmar's father was unknown by official paperwork filed in Standardsville, Greene County, VA.

Delmar was born about 1923. He was the son of Sterling Breeden and Lady Taylor. He passed away about 1964.[1]


DOD records indicate birthdat is 18 June 1922 Death Certificate data completed by his step Brother Clarence Walker Nichols and his mother indicate father unknown.

Delmar was not shot, His death certificate has him as accidental drowning in a river in Madison County near Standardsville. Delmar did not know how to swim and avoided water because of this. During his lifetime, Delmar and his other half brothers (Richard Taylor and Clarence Nichols) travelled up and down the Shenandoah Valley during the depression era working on farms, clearing land, logging, building barns and anything else to generate money.
