Sheri Lynn TAYLOR was born on Wednesday, February 21, 1955 at 11:47 p.m. in Mount Carmel Hospital, located in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, USA. She was the first-born child and oldest daughter of Jack Gerald Taylor, Sr. and Bobbie Jean Owenes.

Sheri Lynn Taylor, 17, married Christin Wayne Purdue, 18, on February 14, 1973, in Hutchinson, Kansas, at the Reno County Courthouse. Sheri's father, Jack Gerald Taylor signed permission for her marriage, and Chris' mother, Ila Joan Jamison Purdue, was their second witness.
Sheri Taylor Purdue and Chris had two children. Christin Purdue joined the U.S. Army in March, 1974, and the couple moved to Seaside, California. Chris was stationed at Fort Ord, California, until July, 1975. His deployment overseas for Germany prompted a move to Texas - for Sheri and their babies.
On December 12,1975, Army Specialist IV Christin W. Purdue received his Honorable Discharge, and returned home. In the middle of January, 1976, he got a job at Bernath Concrete as a driver. One morning he left for work, and didn't come home. He died in a car/semi-truck accident on January 20, 1976.[1]

Sheri Lynn Taylor Purdue, 23, married Charles Henry Bockelman 26, on December 14, 1979, in Houston, Texas, at the Harris County Courthouse. They met in July, 1976, and picked out the lot for their house in March, 1977. They had one daughter together, and raised all three children as one family.

On November 6, 2019, our daughter, Nikki Paige Purdue Araguz-Loyd died at her home in Humble, Texas. She was 44 years old, leaving behind her widower, William Loyd, and their two teenage children.

Early Life

Sheri attended elementary school in four states, starting Kindergarten in Rock Island, Illinois, in September, 1960, and finishing that year 1st grade, and part of 2nd grade, at Binns Boulevard Elementary in Columbus, Ohio.

Although an exemplary reader, Sheri had eyesight difficulties, and was often placed in the front row of class to see the chalkboard. Before seven years old, she was wearing glasses, with grim prognosis for later in life. Opticians predicted Sheri would be blind by adulthood. (Her vision worsened over the years, but was fortunately correctable by thick eyeglasses)
Outgoing and precocious as a child, Sheri entertained adults with singing and constant chatting. Her social extrovert traits were an asset when frequently moving, changing schools, and making friends - but not in the classroom. Her report cards were filled with A's and B's in every subject except conduct: teachers' comments explained why. She simply talked too much!
  • Since her mother had four children in four years, the oldest Taylor girl was fascinated by feeding, bathing, and taking care of infants. Sheri loved rocking the babies and singing lullabies or hymns. But her parents relied on her too much at an early age.

  • 1975, Sheri Taylor Purdue helped establish the first Mother's Day Out Co-Op for young mothers at Fort Ord, Monterey, California. The group consisted of mothers with toddlers and preschoolers under five years. One day/week, participants rotated to share/care 2-3 hours at base-provided location, so others could shop, etc.
  • 1978-1986, Sheri Taylor Bockelman was an active member of neighborhood Community Service Association.
  • 1980-1995, Sheri and neighborhood friends played monthly Pokeno. Twelve card players rotated as hostess at their home, providing refreshments. Gifts of $5-$10 were brought to exchange/stolen each round of play until 10pm, when "time" was called; gift(s) each player had at that moment were won to take home!

Appreciate your quick followup on Shadrach and his spouse. There is no absolutism on surname variants, so a reasoned, best guess with supporting source(s) is the most one can hope for in earlier profiles. All we can do is take delight in finding variant spellings and try to corral them into the preferred variant. It's really like trying to herd cats at times. That's why I like to peruse the list of names in Person Search 'cause our organic visual intelligence is often superior to computer algorithms. That's how I spotted the two Shadrachs.
