Biography

Arnold James is the only known child of Sophia Harriet Balfour MacLean and Walter Ernest Taylor of Dunedin.

Although Arnold was born in 1916 his birth wasn't registered until 1919.

In 1931 Arnold successfully qualified for a senior free place in the Public Service Examinations. ^[1]

He studied at Otago University and attained his degree in Bachelor of Commerce in May 1949.

Arnold was employed as a Clerk and later qualified to become a Registered/Chartered Accountant.

He enlisted in WWII, serial no 38042, rank Private, Unit - 3rd General Hospital, NZ Medical Corps, 2nd NZEF, Third Echelon. Arnold embarked overseas between 1940 and March 1941, next of kin noted as Mrs S H Taylor - mother.

Arnold married to Edna May Thompson, in 1949. They settled to married life at 7 Burke Street, Mornington.

Arnold lived in Dunedin until the late 60's and then relocated to Wellington, living at Karori and later the Hutt.

Arnold and Edna's last years were spent in Masterton.

He died in 2000 aged 83 and is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Masterton. LAWN B ROW B PLOT 7.
