Isabella Hutcheson emigrated to Van Diemen’s Land arriving at Launceston in December 1844 after a voyage of 16 weeks. She travelled with her children John and Jeanie.[3] Her son George had emigrated previously. Her son David is not mentioned on the Winchester passenger list reported in the newspapers.
From the Courier (Hobart, Tas.), Tuesday 31 December 1844, page 2:
The Winchester had left London on 1 September. It was owned by Messrs. Henty and Co., of Launceston.[5]
Isabella died at Coleraine, Victoria, on 2 June 1876. She was aged 84. Her cause of death was catarrh and debility. The informant on her death certificate was the Reverend William John Gillespie, a family friend, who unfortunately did not know how long she had been in the colony or details of her marriage or children. Isabella is buried at Sandford Cemetery near Casterton, Victoria in the Presbyterian Section. There is a headstone erected in her memory by her daughter Christian.[6] [7]
