Son of T W Taylor of Scarborough in England, Bill Taylor was born in England in 1887.
In 1911, the New Zealand Electoral roll shows him as a clerk in Te Kuiti.
He married Amy Braun in 1912 at Waiuku's Holy Trinity Church. After their marriage they appear to have returned to Te Kuiti, and were living in Ngaronga Street in 1914.
They had their first child in 1913, Esther Mary Maude Taylor, and she was followed by a sister who was born in 1915 - Rona Hurst Taylor.
In 1916, Bill Taylor enlisted in the Army, and on his attestation it shows his last employment as a club manager for Te Kuiti Club, but his last address was in Waiuku, and his wife's address amended from Waiuku to Te Kuiti. His religion was noted as Methodist. He was described as being of dark complexion, with brown eyes and dark hair, and he was 5 foot 9 inches tall. He served in the Army Pay Corps and embarked overseas with the 37th reinforcements in May 1918.
Later on, following World War 1, his address was in Eruera Street, in Rotorua, where his occupation was "soldier". He was awarded the British War Medal for his military service in World War I.
On retirement, the couple were living in Epsom, in Auckland at 52A Liverpool Street.
They had a long married life until his death at the age of 72 in 1959. His wife died in 1976. Bill Taylor's ashes are interred at Purewa Cemetery at Block Z Row 3 Plot 32 and Amy's are also interred there.
