When James M. Powell Taylor was born on September 7, 1770, in Orange, Virginia, his father, James, was 40 and his mother, Caroline, was 70. He married Margaret W. McMurray in 1805 in Georgia. They had nine children in 22 years. He died in October 1850 in Newton, Mississippi, having lived a long life of 80 years.
