Gertrude was born on 14 August 1888 in Ripon, Yorkshire to Peter and Ann Taylor. Her family emigrated to New Zealand sometime before 1918[1]
Wilfrid met and later married Gertie on 3 April 1918 at Christ Church, Wanganui.
Wilfrid and Gertie were keen gardeners winning first prize in the Garden of the Year competition in 1920.
Gertie was an excellent embroiderer and worked many cloths. She and Wilfrid had three children.
Gertie's health was not good and she spent a considerable time in Belvedere Private Hospital until her death on 26 March 1936 aged just 47.[2]
