Rosa was born 1912 in Salto, Uruguay.[1] She was the daughter of a England-born New Zealander Ernest Taylor and the Argentinian Sara Hughes. With her parents she soon moved to New Zealand (where her father used to live) but in between she lived in such places as Córdoba Province, Argentina.

Once the family had moved to New Zealand their first family residence there was in Russell where they started living in a house in Chapel St after building it. There was a relatively short stint in Stratford and then the final move was to Whangarei. There it was first 6 Raumanga Valley Rd for many years, moving out probably soon after World War II. Then after a short period in a second, their final one, for many years was 67 Maunu Rd (address no longer exists). She married Willis North in 1936.[2] She passed away in 1990 due to emphysema. She was cremated on 10 September 1990 and her ashes were interred in Maunu Cemetery, Whangarei - Maunu Ash Berm Block A Plot 590. AKA Rosa Sara Matilde Taylor.[3][4][5]
Her mitochondrial DNA haplogroup is V (so passed to her through her maternal lineage). Confirmed by DNA tests of her nephew Melvan Driscoll.
