Biography

David Taylor was born on 3 Apr 1796 in Balvaird, Abernethy, Scotland, son of George Taylor (1758 - 1828) and Mary (Low) Taylor (~1768 - 1850). David, son of George Taylor, was baptised on 3 April 1796 in Abernethy, Perth, Scotland.[1]

His siblings were:

  1. Robert Taylor (1791 - 1861)
  2. Isabella (Taylor) Hutcheson (~1794 - 1876)
  3. Christian (Taylor) Buist (1798 - 1895)
  4. George Taylor (1800 - 1826)
  5. John Taylor (~1802 - )
  6. Mary (Taylor) Davidson (~1806 - 1868)
  7. Jean (Taylor) Alston (1807 - 1863)

David emigrated to Van Diemen's Land with his parents and three siblings arriving January 1823 on the Princess Charlotte.[2]

David (38) married Nancy Gatenby (~26) (1807 - 1860) on 5 Jun 1834 in Campbell Town, Tasmania.[3] Their children were:

  2. Andrew Taylor (1836 - ~1866)
  3. Hannah Taylor (1838 - 1911)
  4. Jean Taylor (1840 - 1927)
  5. David Taylor (1842 - 1911)
  6. Isabel Taylor (1844 - 1924)
  7. John Taylor (1846 - 1919).

David died (age 64) on 21 July 1860 in Campbell Town, Tasmania.[4]

David was mentioned on a memorial in Kirklands Presbyterian Cemetery, Campbell Town, Northern Midlands Council, Tasmania, Australia with a death date of 1860.[5] The memorial reads:

Erected to the Memory of
DAVID TAYLOR
Who Emigrated With His Father
From The Castle of Balvaird
In The Parish of Abernethy, Fifeshire
SCOTLAND
To Tasmania in 1822,
And Died at Winton
Macquarie River
July 21st 1860 Aged 64 Years.
And Also of
NANCY
His Beloved Wife
Who Survived Him Only 4 Days.
Aged 51 Years.
