In 1880, they are still in Worth County with four adult children living with them. [3]

He died in 1896.

Buried in Old Shiloh Cemetery, Tift County, Georgia.[4]

Their son Jessie Franklin Taylor died in 1938. His father was listed as John Thomas Taylor and his mother was listed as Amanda Ward. [5]

Research Notes

  • Parentage is uncertain. Karen Stephenson had identified Isaiah (the brother of James M. Taylor) as John Thomas Taylor's father. The difficulty is that both James and Isaiah were in Emanuel County in 1820 with 2 males under 10. They both moved to Appling County and in 1830 they both had 3 males under 5 and 1 male 15-20 - neither one showed a male 10-15 which John should have been 12. In the 1840 census in Appling County, they both had a male 20-30 (John would have been 22).
  • According to "Ten Taylor Children - James Taylor, Jr. and Leannah Lee Taylor", Virginia Gust Byers; page 8 -- John H.Taylor, that married Mary Ward about 1870, was the son of James Taylor, Sr. and Elizabeth Yates. [6] Note: this is saying his middle initial was 'H, so maybe they were wrong in the book? either that or his son's death record was wrong.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Hello - new to Wiki Tree but have been on Ancestry for many years. John Taylor is my 3rd great-grandfather through his son William Willis Taylor. I had identified him as John Thomas Taylor, however, I see here that he is identified as John Hamilton Taylor. Same info for dates {1818-1896), location (Appling/Worth County GA), and spouse (Amanda Ward), however, I had identified Isaiah (the brother of James M. Taylor) as his father. Do you have any source documents that show James M Taylor as the father of John Taylor? Also, I found the death certificate for Jessie Franklin Taylor (1859-1938) who was the son of John Taylor and lists him as "John Thomas Taylor". Isn't genealogy fun? Like looking for buried treasure. Thanks!

Thank you for your comment and welcome to wikitree! I adopted this profile last year and never really looked at it since. I have just been through the FamilySearch sources and found his middle name is indeed Taylor based on his son Jessie's death record so I have changed the middle name here and on FamilySearch, and included that record here. Thank you!!! As for John Thomas Taylor (1818-1896)'s father I have nothing. When things are not agreed to I like to add Research Notes to profiles so the information isn't lost and so others can see what the thinking currently is. I will add a Research Note now that reflects what you've listed in this Comment about the father.
