Biography

Edmund was born on May 12, 1723 and passed away after May 1808. [1]

In 1752, [1] Edmund Taylor married Ann Lewis (1732-1811) of Goochland County, Virginia. Their children included a son Howell, b. 10 Oct 1754, m. Susanna Young, d. 30 May 1845.[2] (See list of children on Ann's profile.)

23 Oct 1787, Granville Co., NC - The will of John Taylor names "my three brothers & two sisters now living, Edmund Taylor, William Taylor, Joseph Taylor, Isabella Hopkins, and Elizabeth Bullock..." [3]

Location Notes

His wife, Ann Lewis, was born in Goochland County, which was created in 1728 from Henrico county. New Kent County, created from York County in 1654, is across the river from Goochland County. Hanover County was formed from New Kent County in 1720/21. This Edmund is a relative of an Edmund Taylor (Taylor-8267) who was born in 1725 in New Kent and married in Lunenburg County. Lunenburg was formed in 1746. Mecklenburg was formed from Lunenburg in 1764/65.
This Edmund's main DAR record shows that he was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia,[1] which was formed from Essex, King & Queen, and King William counties in 1720/21. His son Richard's DAR record shows that he (Richard) was born in Lunenburg County in 1753.[4] The pension application for John (another son) says that he was 2 years old when his family moved to Mecklenburg County (c1758). His application says he was born in Virginia, but not which county.[5][6]
This DAR record for a descendant of Howell shows Howell born 1754 in Orange County and his father (Edmund, born 1723) also born in Orange County. Orange County was formed from Spotsylvania County in 1734.
See this page for county formation information.

Taylor-42041 and Taylor-7017 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates with duplicate wives and daughters, one profile seems sourced.
Nathaniel Taylor that was removed was possibly son of Edmund Taylor II, son of this Edmund.
Caroline,

I found Nathaniel in the will abstract of Edmond Taylor in Cannon County, Tennessee. It states that those who received " advancements on their inheritance " would not be named. And my 2nd GG-father " Kinchen Taylor ( Taylor-41903 ) had already been deeded a farm as related in one of my county history books. Therefore, he isn't named in the will. I will try to find that document again. It also names another son " Obadiah " if I recall correctly. Nancy Stanley removed Nathaniel from the other profile stating " wrong Taylor ...they are cousins", but when I messaged her to question if she knew he was a cousin , then which was the correct line then, I received no reply. Let me try to find and produce It. I'm working from my phone and it's difficult for me to see. But, I should still have it somewhere.

More documentation that Edmund Taylor died in 1808: Wills, 1746-1943; Index, 1749-1943, Vol 1, image 315 (on Ancestry); Author: North Carolina. Concur with Martha's comment below. Could not find a source for this Edmund Taylor and Ann Lewis having a son named Nathaniel, and they could not have had a son Nathaniel born in 1813, so his orphaned profile has been removed as a child of this couple. Thanks Martha!

Profile on DD Project Report because son Nathaniel Taylor was born after the death of both of his parents.

Nathaniel was born in 1813, but his father died in 1783 (or possibly 1805?) and his mother died in 1811.

I am unable to resolve these issues but have posted my Research Notes on Nathaniel’s profile. If you have any questions ...

I set Edmund Taylor (Taylor-8267) and Edmund Taylor (Taylor-7017) in a rejected match - they're first cousins.

The New Kent County Edmund Taylor is Taylor-8267 (and he married in Lunenburg County).

Lunenburg was formed in 1746. Mecklenburg was formed from Lunenburg in 1764/65.

update: merge completed. This profile had death "about 1783" (retained in datafield); the merged profile had death as 1748. Edmund's DAR record had post-May 1808 (which is in text).

Hi Fred! I just posted some comments on the other Edmund Taylor's page (the Edumond one).

To ensure a smooth merge, I'll complete the merge later today if you've no objection (sources posted on wife Ann's profile match the info in the source posted for this profile - Taylor-7017 - so I want to make sure this profile's info is retained in a merge).

Cheers, Liz

oops - sorry. Here's the message I was going to post as comment to postponing the merge, but I think it would be better to complete the merge. Unless you object, I'll do that later today:

I think the dates might be wrong because the locations don't match up. There were several Edmund Taylors, and I think Taylor-33406 might have acquired info from all of them. There's another Edmund who is Orange County also that is probably a better match (Taylor-7896). I think what we do with Taylor-33406 depends on who the profile manager's ancestors are (I find no Josesph Richard Taylor for Taylor-7017, but his son Richard married Lucy Byne).

Hi! I was going to postpone the merge with the following note, but I think - considering you have son attached to a profile for Lucy Byne - that your ancestor is not the Orange County Edmund (who moved to Kentucky).

Please let me know if you have any objection to this profile & son Richard's being edited to match DAR information via merge with Taylor-7017 (see sources on his wife Ann's profile).

Thanks! Liz

Taylor-33406 and Taylor-7017 appear to represent the same person because: The spelling of Taylor-33406 is probably how the duplicate got started. Edumond is not correct. Otherwise, all else lines up, with the exception of the death dates... possibly both are wrong there. I have 1808 in my files, which agree with FindAGrave memorial and DAR papers. Edmund is also found in 1790 and 1800 Censuses in Granville, NC.
