Warrensburg:
John G. Taylor, 88, of Hill Cottage Road, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 29, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 16, 1925 in Queens, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Glaister) Taylor.
John proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy as a submariner during World War II and the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1951, he began his working years with Delro Trucking in Brooklyn, driving tractor trailer for many years. Eventually John became the proprietor of his own auto repair business, Stone’s Garage in Warrensburg. During that time he enjoyed racing modified stock cars with his many friends. After several years at the garage, he returned to Delro Trucking until his retirement in 1987.
Following his retirement, he began working for R.J. Sweet Lumber Company where he remained until last year.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a lifelong communicant of Church of the Holy Cross.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by two daughters, Denise P. Brown and Amanda L. Taylor as well as a grandson, Nathan Taylor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennie Taylor of Warrensburg; his son, John E. Taylor and his wife, Heather Lewis; his daughter, Elizabeth L. Hayes and her husband, Damian; grandchildren: Ashleigh A. Taylor, Camille M. Taylor, Cassidy L. Lewis, Isabelle M. Taylor, Lydia A. Hayes and Ian H. Hayes; his sister, Mildred DeBois and a niece, Jerry Ann.
At John’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled.
A Requiem Mass to celebrate his life will be conducted 11 am, Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg with Fr. Thomas Pettigrew, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in John’s memory to Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
