Biography

John was born in early 1829, the son of Joshua and Mary Polly (Crisler) Teasley in Elbert County, Georgia, where he was raised.

John had left Georgia and made his way to Mississippi in the late 1840's to early 1850's and on December 23, 1852, he married Margaret Eveline Cooper, the daughter of William Hamilton and Frances "Fanny" (Smith) Cooper, in Fanny's home of Rankin, Mississippi where they would settle and have the following children:

Mary Frances (Teasley) Odom (1853–1896)

E. J. Teasley (1858– )

James Oscar Teasley (1859–1923)

Margaret Julia (Teasley) Price (1863–1945)

John Robert Teasley (1867–1888)

Henry Howard Teasley (1869–1940)

John served the Confederacy during the Civil War as a private in the 1st Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (State Troops). This unit was organized on July 31, 1862 at Grenada as a unit of the Minute Men and sprung from the Mississippi Militia. There are no records of this unit seeing battle action during the war.

John died in the same year as his youngest child was born in 1869. He was just 40 years of age. John's body was buried in the Florence Cemetery in Florence, Rankin County, Mississippi, along with Margaret's and many other Teasley relatives.

Margaret would live on for another 40 years, passing away in 1909 having never remarried.
