John was born at Selside, Westmorland, England. He was baptised at Selside on 26 October 1836. [1]

In 1896 John Tebay arranged for Lambrigg Terrace and Melrose Place to be built on New Road.

In 1897 John was living at Lambrigg. He had a warehouse at Yard 23, Stramongate. [2]

On 2 April 1911 John was living at 6 bedroomed Eller Mount (now 1 Sedbergh Road) Kendal with a housekeeper.

John died on 19 June 1918.[3]
