Biography

Per "Pioneers Union County" Julia was the next to last child born to John and Mary Templeton, stating she was born in 1810.

There has been some confusion over the last name of her first husband James. Some had it as Addison but no records have been found with that name when associated with Julia. In her marriage record to Enoch McCarty, her last name is listed as Allison. Unfortunately, no records have been found for a James Allison and, based on Julia's marriage to Enoch, he died prior to 1850.

Julia Allison and Enoch McCarty were married on 11 April 1852. Unfortunately for Julia, Enoch died five years later in 1857, but not before they had one son named Thomas Jefferson McCarty who was born in 1854 per the 1860 census.

In the 1880 census, Julia states she was born in Indiana in 1810. She states her father was born in Ireland and her mother in SC.

In this (1880) census, Julia is the household head and her son Thomas is living with her. Thomas occupation is listed as a druggist. We have no records indicating Thomas ever married and he must have died prior to 1900 as he does not appear in the census for that year. (There are no census records for 1890.)

Julia is buried in the Old Brookville Cemetery, Franklin County, Indiana, and her tombstone provides the data for her birth and death.
