Biography

Ruth was the daughter of John Templin.

By 1748, she had married Ephraim Templin. The two of them participated in the sale of John Templin's bequested property to Ruth's brothers. See notes for full details.

She died some time after 1748.

To all Xian People to whom these Presents shall come know ye that Ephraim Heather and Ruth his wife[,] William Handcock and Jemimah his wife[,] Jonathan Scudder and Mary his wife[,] and Esther Templin which said Ruth Jemmiah and Mary and Esther are daughters of John Templin late of Sussex County dec'd

for and in consideration as much of the Natural Love and affection which they bear unto their brothers Richard and John Templin as for the sum of forty pounds current money of Pennsylvania to them in hand paid by said Richard and John Templin the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained sold _____ released conveyed and confirm'd unto the said Richard and John Templin as tenants in common their heirs and assign for ever all the right title claim interest and demand either in law or equity which the sd grantors or either of them have or can have of in or to all the said lands tenements and _____ whereof John Templin _____ ded'd died possessed in Sussex County on Delaware.

To hold to the said Richard and John Templin their heirs and Assigns foreset as tenants in common us assd and that free and clear of and from the claim and claims of them the said Ephriam Heather and Ruth his wife William Handcock and Jemimah his wife Jonathan Scudder and Mary his wife and Esther Templin their and every of their heirs ex's and Adm's for ever

And the said Ephraim and Ruth his wife William and Jemimah his wife Jonathan and Mary his wife and Esther do covenant for themselves and their heirs to execute any other Deed of Release to said Richard and John Templin at the proper costs and charges of said Rich'd and John their heirs and assigns for the better and more full confirmation of this Law as said and premises unto the said Richard and John Templin their heirs and assigns as Tenants in Common as by their or either of their Council learned in the Law shall be reasonably devised advised and required in testimony whereof the said Ephraim Heather and Ruth his wife William Handcock and Jemimah his wife Jonathan Scudder and Mary his wife and Esther Templin hope hereunto set their hands and seals this twenty sixth day of July Seventeen hundred and forty eight.

And we do hereby Nominate and Appoint John Neill of Sussex County our law full attorney to acknowledge within deed according to Law and the contents thereof. Sealed & Delivered in Presence of us

August the 3rd 1748. The execution of this Deed was proved in open Court Pursuant Law by the assd Anderson Parker Esq. Sussex on Delaware) The within Deed was acknowledged in Court of Law at a Court of Com Pleas held in Lewes in the county assd on the third day of August one thousand seven hundred and forty eight by John Neill Attorney of the Grantors unto the within named grantors the due _____ of the said Deed and Appointment of the said Attorney being first proved in open court upon the Oath of Anderson Parker Esq. One of the witness thereunto subscribing

Age: because Ruth is the first daughter listed in the above document, she is probably the eldest. Since three of the four sisters are married as of 1748, Ruth was born by 1728 at the very latest, but probably earlier.
