Note N141WILLIAM HAMILTON TENNEY, born in Georgetown, D. C., 13 March., 1815,
son of Isaac and Anna (-"Mitchell) Tenney;
married in 1842, Eliza Cropley, who was born in Boston, England, 19 Feb., 1818
and died 10 Aug., 1882.
Residence, Georgetown. For several years he was in the grocery business; a merchant miller after 1870; a member of the Common Council, also of Levy Court and the " Old Inhabitants' Society;" trustee for the Presbyterian Church, of which he was a valuable member.
President Lincoln appointed him commissioner of the metropolitan police. He was a popular
and successful business man, and died 5 Dec., 1888 ; interred at Oak Hill cemetery.
