Biography

Elizabeth Tenney, daughter of John, was baptized 8 Aug 1610 at St. Peter's, Great Limber, Lincolnshire, England.[1][2]

Elizabeth married first James Heaton of Great Limber on 17 Aug 1630, at Stallingborough, Lincolnshire, England.[1][3]

She married second, about 1642 (based on the estimated birth of their first child), in New Haven, Connecticut, Benjamin Willmott.[4]

Elizabeth Wilmott and William Judson were married by Mr Gilbert on the 8th of February 1659:" in New Haven [p16][5]

Elizabeth Judson died in 1685.[4] Her will was not dated, nor was the New Haven Inventory. The witnesses were asked when it was done and "informed ye it was in Janry or Feb Last".[6] Her estate in Milford was appraised 10 Nov. 1685.[6] She made bequests to daughters Hannah, Mary and Elizabeth, also to Abigail, Samuel, Stephen and Theophilus Miles, to son Heaton, to grandson John Mix, and to Hester and Elizabeth Mix. A codicil further mentions Abigail Heaton, Hester Mix and son James.[7]

Elizabeth had an assigned seat in the meeting house: on the cross seats at the end in 1646 as G[oody or Goodwife] Wilmot[8]; in 1655 as Goodwife Wilmot Jr. she is assigned to the 9th row of the long seats[9]; and in 1662 she is assigned the 5th row of the long seats as Sister Judson.[10].

Shortly after the death of her husband Benjamin, on May 6, 1651, the Widow Willmot appeared in court asking if she needed to bring an inventory of the estate. She explained that her son James Eaton had a legacy left by his father, her first husband, and that it was now part of the Wilmot estate, but she wanted to make sure that James got it. The court replied that they would do the right thing by her and by her son James, and that she should bring the inventory to court and the assigned men to take the inventory.[11] In due time, the inventory was brought to court[12] and the widow is granted administration[13]. Hannah (in 1664) and Mercy (in 1668) declare in court that they had received their portions[14][15]

"Widdow Wilmott passeth ouer for ever vnto her sonne James Heaton 5 acres & half of meadow on ye Island, & her whole proportion of vpland in the Neck" on Jan 1659/60."[16]

Elizabeth and James Heaton had two children

  1. Faith Heaton, bp at Great Limber, Lincolnshire, 15 June 1631; She died before 11 Dec 1631, and was not mentioned in her father's will.[1]
  2. James Heaton, bp 19 Aug. 1632 in Great Limber.[1] He died in New Haven, Connecticut 16 Oct 1712, aged 79.[1]

She had three children by Benjamin Wilmot.

  1. Hannah Wilmot b. Jan. 25, 1644/5, bpt 21 May 1648[17] m. (1) Samuel Miles (2nd wife) and (2) Miles Merwin[1]
  2. Mary/Mercy Wilmot b. Feb. 16, 1646/7; bpt 21 May 1648;[17] m. Richard Bryan[1]
  3. Elizabeth Wilmot bpt. Sept. 23, 1649[17], m. John Mix.[1]

Unknown-122884 and Tenny-24 appear to represent the same person because: There is no info on -122884 except the same spouse and marriage date as Tenny-24. The birthdate on -122884 was likely a guess at 20 years before the marriage. No sources on 122884, and she is an orphan (adopted to help expedite merge). Please merge into Tenny-24

Heaton-39 and Tenny-24 appear to represent the same person because: Same husbands. Tenny is maiden name, Heaton was first marriage. Dates are way off on Heaton-39, use Tenny-24

She was born in August of 1610 & baptized on 8 August 1610 in St. Peter's in Great Limber, Lincolnshire, England where her family resided. If you take a look at the birth date you have for her and her first marriage date, you will see that there is something amiss. If you need help straightening her out, let me know. I do have sources. The New England Historical & Genealogical Register published a record that now gives Elizabeth's maiden name. It's Tenney. See Volume 152, page 451. This is all new research and changes many things including where Elizabeth should go. Not sure how to change her surname from her first husband's (Heaton) to real maiden name. You might ask on G2G because it shouldn't simply be an aka.
