Charles Frederick Locker Tennyson was born in 1879 he was the son of Lionel Tennyson and his wife Eleanor Locker[1] Although his birth registration says Charles Frederick which would have been after his maternal grandfather Frederick Locker it appears that in life he was called Charles Bruce Locker Tennyson. He was the grandson of Alfred Tennyson the poet laureate.
Charles Frederick Locker Tennyson was the Whewell Scholar in International Law at Cambridge and Arden Scholar at Gray’s Inn. He was called to the Bar in 1905. He held several government positions during his lifetime one being Assistant Legal Advisor to the Colonial Office[2] and Chairman of the Central Institute for Art and Design.[3] He wrote several books about his grandfather Alfred Tennyson and Tennyson’s poetry but felt that he himself was not up to the standard of his eminent grandfather in litery persuits. He had a great eye for good Art and design and promoted and encouraged the same.
In 1909 he married Ivy Gladys Pretious [4]and they had three sons two of whom were killed during WW1. His son Hallam survived .
He was Knighted in 1945
He died in 1977 predeceased by his wife who died in 1958[5]
