Tryphena "Phene" Terrell Adair was the daughter of Aaron Terrell and Annie E. Woodall Terrell Hendricks. She had two brothers: William "Ross" Terrell and Andrew Terrell who died at the age of 10. Her mother Annie Woodall Terrell later married Franklin Hendricks; her half-brothers and sisters are: George William Hendricks, Richard F.B. "Robert" Hendricks, Susanne "Susie" or "Sood" Hendricks Cordrey; Mary "Mollie" Hendricks Owens, and Della Hendricks who died at the age of 7.
In Tahlequah, OK, on March 31, 1903,[2] she married John Martin Adair who served with the Rough Riders and was an uncle of Will Rogers. They had no children. She was 1/4 Cherokee.
