Marguerite Thériot, daughter of Claude Thériot and Marie Gautrot, was born around 1666-1667;[1] she was age 4 in 1671,[2] age 12 in 1678,[3] age 20 in 1686.[4]

When Marguerite was about 16 years of age, around 1683, she married 20-year-old Claude Landry, son of René Landry and Perrine Bourg.[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Marguerite TERRIOT [sic], aged 20, was living with her husband, Claude LANDRY, aged 24, and her widowed mother-in-law, Perine [sic] BOURC (sic), aged 74 [sic], and their daughter, Marguerite [sic], aged 18 months. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 3 arpents of cultivable land with 7 cattle, 8 sheep, and 6 hogs.[6]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Marguerite TERIOT [sic], aged 26, was living with her husband, Claude LANDRY, aged 33, and their four children: Madeleine, aged 8, Marie, aged 6, Claude, aged 3, and Marguerite, aged 1. Her family was living in the household of her mother-in-law, Perrine BOURG, aged 67, widow of Rene LANDRY. The houshold owned 1 gun and was living on 32 arpents of cultivable land with 15 cattle, 15 sheep, and 6 [sic] pigs.[7]

By 1698, there were six children in the household. The family had 10 cattle, 13 sheep, 8 pigs, 22 arpents of land, 3 fruit trees and 1 gun.[8] The Landry family was counted again in the subsequent censuses at Port-Royal between 1700 and 1714.[9][10][11][12][13][14]

"The signature of the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 marked the end of the War of the Spanish Succession and the definitive transformation of Acadie in to the British colony of Nova Scotia, as well as the start of a long period of political instability in Acadie. The Acadians who inhabited this New Scotland had to choose between leaving for French territory such as île Royale (today's Cape Breton) or île Saint-Jean (today's Prince Edward Island), or swearing an unconditional oath of allegiance to the monarch in London. Instead, the Acadians proposed a compromise: they wished to remain on their lands and stay neutral in the event of a conflict between France and Great Britain. British colonial authorities grudgingly accepted since they did not have the military means in place to dissuade them."[15]

By 1722, the Landry family had left their homestead in Annapolis Royal to settle at Port-Toulouse, Isle Royale (present-day Cape Breton), since they were counted there in the censuses of 1722[16], 1724,[17] and 1726.[18] No occupation or land were listed for Claude and Marguerite. He was described as being an elderly inhabitant. In 1726, there were only 2 children remaining in the family home.

Marguerite's date of death is unknown. A date of 28 APR 1777 at Bécancour, Quebec, Canada, at age 109-110 was entered but was unsourced and has been removed. Caution is advised. She isn't on the census of 1752 (La Roque).

Research Notes

This Marguerite has a younger sister also named Marguerite Marguerite Thériot (abt.1689-1777) who was born about 1689 and who married on 26 January 1712, at Port Royal, Acadia, Rene Richard dit Beaupre ca 1688-1776.[19]

Therriot-2 and Thériot-121 appear to represent the same person because: same name, approximate year of birth off by only one year, date and place of death

Terriot-110 and Thériot-121 appear to represent the same person because: I believe my ancestor is the same person by birth and death dates. I also have dna matches with Thérese and Irma Gaudet on Gedmatch. The spelling of the last name was obtained through the St Boniface Historical record.

Where is the evidence that she lived to the age of 105? Other Acadian genealogy sources treat her date of death as unknown.

Thériot-72 and Thériot-121 are sisters, not the same person. The birth date was entered incorrectly on this one, probably by mixing up the two sisters. Those wacky Acadians, reusing the same names all the time. :)
