Biography

Luther Terry lived in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

Luther was born on November 25, 1899 at Buffalo in Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of Elijah Terry and Florina ( Cross ) Terry . He married Grace Adkins on May 24, 1917 in Scott County. He passed away on June 2, 1967 at Scott County Hospital in Oneida.

Obituary,

"TERRY, Rev. LUTHER - age 67, passed away in the Scott County Hospital, Friday morning, June 2, 1967. He was the son of the late ELIJAH and JANE JOHNSON TERRY. He was born in Scott County November 25, 1899. He professed a hope in Christ and united with the Upper Jellico Creek Baptist Church in September, 1937. He was ordained to the ministry of the gospel in June, 1940. He pastored several churches in Scott County and vicinity during the past twenty-five years. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Grave Hill Baptist Church. He was married to GRACE ADKINS who survives him. To this union was born eight children, One Daughter, EVELYN preceded him in death. Surviving are three Daughters, Mrs. LOLA TROXEL of Oneida, Mrs. JOYCE DAUGHERTY of Winfield and Mrs. MARY JANE LAY of Cincinnati; four Sons, OLIVER of Oneida, FRED, of Glendale, Oregon, LUTHER, Jr. of Fort Hood, Texas, and TRAVIS of Millington, Tennessee. He is also survived by one Sister, Mrs. CINDY LEWIS, of Cincinnati; 24 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 4, at the Oneida Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. LACY ADKINS and BILL MATTHEWS officiating. Burial in Marcum-Kidd Cemetery.
