Biography

"This indenture, made and entered into on this 22d day of August, A. D. 1835 by and between Rosanna Terry, widow Dehart, now the wife of Jerome Bazinet, John Dehart, and Martha Ann Dehart, minors, parties of the first part, inhabitants of the parish of Carroll, and Jane Cooper, John Owen, William W. Owen, Jr., and Joseph Owen, parties of the second part," and so on(source listed below) In this document, Rosanna is selling land she inherited as the wife of Wynant Dehart, though he's not mentioned by name here, and as the mother of his minor children. She's selling land to her former sister-in-law, now remarried to a James Cooper, and nephews. Logically, Terry refers to her maiden name, as it isn't feasible that she was married to another man named Terry between Wynant and Jerome. I have been researching Rosanna for over 20 years, and the only document I have ever found are the listed sale document, and son John's bible where he states he is the son of Wynant and Rosanna-though, unfortunately, he gave no info on his mother's maiden name. I have found no marriage record, and no US census records at all, though there is one sheriff census, in 1823, in Arkansas County, Arkansas Territory that lists a Rhoda Dehart as a land owner alongside her brother-in-laws John and James Dehart,-but that is conjecture on my part. However, Rosanna might not have a long paper trail, but she definitely existed. I was fortunate enough to communicate with another descendant of Rosanna-a Mary Limbert, who is Rosanna's descendant through her Bazinet marriage.
