Charles was born 1842 in the district of St George, Hanover Square, Westminster, London.[1]
By 1844 Charles had a sister, Jane, and they were living in Petersfield, Hampshire. Charles and Jane were both baptised at Petersfield on 29 September 1844.[2][3]
It seems they had moved to Bosham, Sussex by 1848, when his second sister, Agnes Terry, was born.
Sometime beteeen 1848 and 1851, Charles' father passed away.
At the time of the 1851 Census, Charles was at Ambersham, Sussex with his parternal grandfather, Richard Goble (1791-1863).[4].
In 1861 he was still with his grandfather. They were living at Upper Gosdon Heath, Chichester, Midhurst, Sussex.[5]

Birth Place: From the Birth Registration Index we know that Charles was born within the Registration District of St George, Hanover Square, Westminster, London. The 1851 Census has simply, "London" and the 1861 Census is no more helpful with "Middxx London".
