Biography

Willard was born 22 Sep 1905 in Washington State, USA. His parents were David W Terry, 25, a labourer, born in Canada and Iva Johnston, 17, born in Michigan, of 2617 Pacific St, Bellingham, WA[1][2].

Willard, age 20, married Abbie Pauline Kunbera, 18 on 3 Jul 1926 at 2329 Orleans St. in Whatcom, Washington State[3]. He had been born in Washington, Abbie in Vancouver, BC. Willard was a clerk. His father was David Terry, born in Canada, his mother was Iva Johnston, born in Michigan. Abbie's father was Charles Kunlrea ?, her mother Pauline Adina ?, born in Norway[4].

In 1910 Willard was 4, living on Cedarville Rd in Goshen, WA, the son of David Terry, 21, born in Michigan and Iva Tury, 30, born in Canada of Irish descent. Iva is listed as the head of the family. She worked as a bolt cutter in a shingle camp. David was a keeper of a mill boarding house, probably the same residence. Living in the boarding house were John F Culrer, Iva's uncle, age 68, a helper in the cook house, Erickson John, 55, a shingle mill block piler and Christian Sollum, 23, a grocery store manager[5].

In 1920 Willard, 14, was living on Jaeger St, Bellingham with his father David, age 39, a greens keeper at a golf links[6].

On 3 July 1926 Willard, 20, and Abbie Pauline Knulera, 18, were married in Whatcom, WA. He was a clerk, she was a domestic. His father was David Terry, born in Canada; his mother was Iva Johnston from Michigan. Her father was Charles Knulera, her mother Pauline Auna form Norway[7].


In 1930 Gerry was 1 year, 3 months old, living with her parents Willard D. Terry, 24 and Abbie P. Terry, 22. David W. Terry, Willard's brother was also living with the family. Abbie and David had been born in Canada. Willard was a clerk in a grocery store and David was a greens keeper at a country club[8].

Willard and Iva's son Richard David Terry was born in 1932[9].

In 1940 Willard was married, but living with his uncle and aunt, William, 41, and Ruth, 40, Hayes and their children Laura Mae, 18 and William E., 15 on W. Illinois St, Bellingham. Willard was a machinist helper who had completed 3 years of high school. Richard Terry, 7, is living with them as well. Richard is also listed as a nephew, but he was Willard's son[10].

Willard, age 35, registered for the draft on 15 Oct 1940 in Bellingham, WA. His employer was R G Fisher of 700 Maple St., Bellingham. His father was his next of kin, living at the Bellingham Golf Club. Willard was 5'10", 160 lbs, light brown complexion, brown hair, blue eyes[11].

In 1950 Willard is living with his mother in law Sybilla Stewart, age 84, a widow, born in Pennsylvania and his wife Marie Terry, age 53, born in Oklahoma, a waitress is a restaurant. Willard, 45 is a cook in a restaurantUnited States of America, Bureau of the Census; Washington, D.C.; Seventeenth Census of the United States, 1950; Record Group: Records of the Bureau of the Census, 1790-2007; Record Group Number: 29; Residence Date: 1950; Home in 1950: Bellingham, Whatcom, Washington; Roll: 4529; Sheet Number: 8; Enumeration District: 37-48.

In 1952 Willard returned to Bellingham aboard the ship Palomar, sailing from Vancouver, BC to Seattle. He was 46, and was working on the ship as a cook. He had been employed on a ship for 10 years[12].

Willard died in July 1973 in Everett, Snohomish County, Washington, United States of America and was buried in Greenacres Memorial Park, Ferndale. His spouse's name was Marie[13][14].
