Biography

Military Service

Simon enlisted August 25, 1864 at Easthampton, Massachusetts, and was mustered in at Boston as a private in Company I, 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry on September 21st. He was discharged on May 8, 1865, at Baltimore, Maryland.[1]
He participated in the Third Battle of Winchester and the battles of Opequon Creek and Cedar Creek during Gen. Sheridan's Shenandoah Campaign in late 1864 to early 1865. He was injured during Cedar Creek when his horse jumped a ditch and spent three months in a Baltimore hospital before rejoining his regiment.[2]
