Carl was schooled mostly in Findlay, having only attended kindergarten in Toledo at Lincoln Elementary School. In Findlay he went to Lincoln Grammar School, J.C. Donnell Junior High School, and finally graduating from Findlay High School in June, 1942. Carl majored in social psychology and graduated in 1948. On September 20, 1949, he began a year-long training class for the Los Angeles County Probation Department, where he worked from 1950 until his retirement in 1986.[3]
