1851 Birth and Parents

Thomas Terwilliger was born 30 August 1851 in Moravia, Cayuga County, New York.[1]

In the 1860 Census for Cayuga Co, NY, Brutus pg 97-98, Thomas Terwilliger was age 8 and living in the home of his father Sam Terwilliger, 45, farm laborer, with siblings William, 24, Lucinda, 13, Martha 5, Emma 3. [3]

1873 Marriage

In about 1873 Thomas Terwilliger, b. 1852 of Samuel (1814). m. Ella Trim as sister of James Kelly, d. 1934. Lived Moravia.

He married Ella P Trim Terwilliger (1862–1918) [1]

His wife, Ella P "Trim" was born Feb. 15, 1862. [4]

Thomas Terwilliger (my great great grandfather) who was born in 1873 in Moravia married Ella Trim who was born in 1877 in Moravia, NY. They had 4 children: Thomas Jr, Alfarata (allie), who married John Michael Famoly, Addie, and Maybelle, who married Roy Secaur (My Great Grandparents). [5] This would appear to refer to the next generation.

1900. Diphtheria causes Death of Daughter

1900 (age 48). An eleven year old daughter (b. 1889) of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Terwilliger, who reside on Jewett Hill died Wednesday of diptheria. Three of _?_(can't read) surviving children of the family are seriously ill with the same disease. [6]

1905 Burned at Foundry

The Auburn Bulletin. Thursday, February 23, 1905. A foundryman burned. Thomas Terwilliger, an employee of the Gray Iron Foundry of the International Harvester Company, was quite painfully burned with molten metal yesterday, while pouring off the metal spattered, burning him in several place on the left side. He was taken to his home, No. 26 Lincoln Street, where the burns were given necessary attention by Dr. D.F. Armstrong. [7]

1917. Son moves home

1917 (age 65). Clarence Terwilliger and family of Summerhill has moved in with his father. Thomas Terwilliger of Oak Hill. [8]

1918 Death of Ella

Thomas Terwilliger's wife Ella P "Trim" Terwilliger (Feb. 15, 1862 - Sep. 10, 1918) was buried in the Stewarts Corner Cemetery, adjacent to the Venice Baptist Chuch, Venice, Cayuga County, New York. [4]

1919 Party

In 1919, daughter Mabel was living with him. The Auburn Citizen, Friday, September 12, 1919 reports: A family party was held recently at the home of Thomas Terwilliger and his daughter, Mabel. Those present were Mr. and Mrs John Famoly and children, Mr and Mrs. Charles Famoly, Auburn: Mrs Ernest Koon and children, Freeville; Wesley Tyler, Groton and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Terwilliger and children, Moravia. The Auburn Citizen, Tuesday, August 9, 1927 reports that Thomas Terwilliger of Cortland is passing some time at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Famoly.

1931. Birthday

The Moravia Republican Register, Moravia, New York, Friday, September 11, 1931 reported the following: Double birthday party. Relatives and friends numbering nearly one hundred, gathered Sunday, August 30, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Famoly of Owasen to observe the 80th birthday of Thomas Terwilliger, father of Mrs. Famoly.The 37th birthday of Mrs. Joseph Fanella was also observed. A beautiful dinner featured the gathering. Mr. Terwilliger and Mrs. Fanella received many fine gifts. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Coon and family, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Mcgraw, daughter Pauline, and son, Junior. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson and grandson Raymond, Miss Beatrice Robinson, all of Ithaca. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Terwilliger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Famoly and daughter, Barbara, Amos Terwilliger, all of Sennett; Mr and Mrs. Roy Secaur and daughters, Marie and Louise, Mrs. Thomas Terwilliger, all of Moravia; Mr and Mrs. Thomas Terwilliger and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bates and family, Mr. and Mrs James Eastman, all of Auburn. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hakes and family, Cortland: Mrs Viola Mulligar, sons, Arthur and Junior, Etna; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lenhart, Aurora; Mr and Mrs Fred Robinson, Toronto, Canada: Louis Kniffer, Balwinsville and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fanella, Syracuse. 1934. Death and Burial

He died 20 March 1933, aged 81 in Moravia, Cayuga County, New York and was buried in the Stewarts Corners Cemetery, Cayuga County, New York, USA. [1]

Moravia Republican Register, Moravia, New York, Friday, March 23, 1934. THOMAS TERWILLIGER , 82, lifelong resident of this section, died Tuesday at the home of his son Clarence, near this village. He had been ill two weeks. He leaves three daughters and three sons. Mrs. ADELAIDE COON of Ithaca, Mrs. ALVERTA FAMOLY of Sennet. Mrs. MABEL SECAUR of Cortland, CLARETTE of Moravia, AMOS of Sennett, THOMAS of Owasco; also 29 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at Venice Baptist Church. Burial at Venice cemetery. [11]
