Biography

REMEMBRANCES:

According to the family, George abandoned his Leominster family without divorcing Julia, and started another family perhaps nearer to Boston. (The family that descended from he and Julia Marquis, believe to know who the members of his 2nd family were.

According to Lorraine (Tessier) Pavilaitis (a granddaughter), George's son Leo G. Tessier, Sr. once went looking for George. Found, is an article in the local newspaper, (Fitchburg Sentinel) that George Tessier of Lexington was charged with non-support by his wife in Leominster District Count, (Leominster being the city where Julia (Marquis) Tessier was residing) in April 1938.[1]

It also says "as a result of a welfare purge by Capt. Francis W. Farwell and Sergt. Henry Q. St. Cyr." This profile's owner, recalls his grandmother, Dorothy (Hatstat) Tessier speaking of Henry St. Cyr as a family friend. HOWEVER, the age of the George Tessier in the article, (47) would call into question agreement with the dob we understand, (1887); and Julia (Marquis) Tessier or the children's names are not given in the article. This article's date would have been about when Julia Marquis' two youngest children were in their late teens, and would have been about the time when an elder son, Leo G. Tessier is suspected of going looking for his father, (George E. Tessier.) More research is needed.

BIRTH:

A record of the birth of this person who when registered logged his name as George Elie Tessier. He was born October 26, 1887 in Spencer, Worcester, Massachusetts to parents given as Israel (inferred Tessier) a boot maker born in Marlboro, Massachusetts and "Elide" (sic) born in Northboro or Southboro maybe Marlboro, (difficult to read).[2]

See 1908 marriage source suggests that his year of birth was 1887.

See 1917 WW1 Draft Registration record that says he self-reported that he was born in Spencer, MA, October 27, 1887.

See 1920 US Census source that says he was born in Massachusetts and that in 1920 he was 32yrs old.

See 1940 US Census source where he is given as 49yrs old.

See 1950 US Census source where he is given as 59yrs old.

EMPLOYMENT:

1st family knows he was a baker.

See 1910 & 1920 US Census sources that each say he was employed as a baker in a bakery then.

See 1917 WW1 Draft Registration record that says in 1917 he was a baker working for Philips Bakery in Somerville, MA and living in Somerville.

See 1930 US Census source that says he was a baker in a bread shop.

See 1940 and 1950 US Census sources where he is given as a baker.

MARRIAGE:

George Tessier married Julie Marquis in Leominster, Massachusetts 1908. This record also tells us his birth year (est) 1887, parents names were Israel Tessier and Annie Meanor. His wife was from Leominster and her parents were David Marquis and Alina Tardit.[3]

See 1917 WW1 Draft Registration record that says as early as 1917 he is found living in Somerville, MA and may be apart from Julia and family at least some of the time.

Records suggest he raised a 2nd family in or around Lexington, MA. No official record of a 2nd marriage has been found, but the 1st family knows he never divorced Julia (Marquis) Tessier and that records seem to suggest he was buried with Julia.

CENSUS':

The 1910 US Census of Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this George E. Tessier at the age of 22yrs old and given as a baker in a bakery, born in Massachusetts and married for one year. He is living there in Leominster in a residence he is renting at 155 Fourth St. with his 24yr old wife, Julia A. and their 2-month old son, Wilfred A.[4]

The 1920 US Census of Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts, finds this George Tessier at the age of 32yrs old and given as a baker in a bakery shop, born in Massachusetts. He is living there in Leominster in a dwelling he is renting at 15 Sixth St. with his 34yr old wife, Julia and their four children; 9yr old Wilfred E., 7yr old Leo G., 5yr old Annie J. Curiously, there are three Tessier children living in the household, given as "nephews" and "nieces" of Daisy. They are 9yr old Robert Tessier, 6yr old Ruth (Tessier) and 4yr old Barbara A. (Tessier). We believe these children to be the children of Daisy and George.[7]

He is living there in Lexington at 17 Fletcher Ave. with a woman given as his wife, named Eleanor and given as 54yrs old, and three children given as George's children, 17yr old Robert, 16yr old Ruth and 14yr old Barbara.
