Louis Pierre (Tessier dite Lavigne) Tessier was born on February 22, 1783 in Châteauguay, Province de Québec, son of Jacques Tessier (1740–1812) and Marguerite Surette (~1744–1835).

She was the daughter of Nicolas Viau and Françoise Amable Lécuyer. Their known daughter was Catherine (Tessier dite Lavigne) Tessier (~1813–1892).
