Honoré-Louis Tesson is the son of Honoré Tesson and Catherine Bordin Savinier of Beaulieu, Sur-La-Roche, France. Louis was born in the year the Edict of Fontainebleau (22 October 1685) was issued by Louis XIV of France. The edict revoked the Edict of Nantes (1598), by which Henry IV of France had granted the Huguenots the right to practice their religion without persecution from the state. A large number of Protestants — estimates range from 210,000 to 900,000 — left France over the next two decades. [1]
Honoré-Louis emigrated from the port of La Rochelle, France on April 9, 1720 to establish a mill in Montréal, Canada, New France. Arrangements were made in France, and notarized by Charles De Fleury Deschambault at René-François Desbarres, giving Honoré-Louis a salary of £ 100 a year with a year received in advance, and a helping of brandy every morning.
Honoré-Louis is accompanied on the same contractual act of his friend Pierre Gaultier also miller, a native of Poire Sur La Roche in Poitou, aged 21 or thereabouts.
It is in Montreal that Honoré-Louis meets and marries Montreal born Marie-Catherine Euphrosine Debluche, who is twenty or more years his junior. They are married on October 13, 1732, in Longueuil, Montreal, [2] and become the parents of a large family with thirteen children.
Honoré Tesson died January 29, 1754, and was buried January 30, 1754, at Hôtel-Dieu de Québec.[3][4]
