Charles Patrick "Chuck" Thacker (February 26, 1943 – June 12, 2017) was an American pioneer computer designer. He worked on the Xerox Alto, which is the first computer that used a mouse-driven Graphical User Interface.
Son of Ralph Scott Thacker (born 1906, an electrical engineer (Cal Tech class of 1928) in the aeronautical industry and with a previous marriage, and the former (Mattie) Fern Cheek (born 1922 in Oklahoma, a cashier and secretary, who soon raised their two sons on her own), Charles was born in Pasadena in 1943.
Chuck, 74, died of complications from esophageal cancer in Palo Alto, California, of complications from esophageal cancer.
He passed away in 2017, in Palo Alto, of complications from esophageal cancer.
