Norma Jane "Skeeter" Hensley, 70, of McGaheysville, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 29, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hensley was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Norman and Catherine Thacker. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Claud R. Dean Sr. and Rome Hensley Jr., and a sister, Elsie Armentrout.

Norma had previously worked at Transprints USA in Harrisonburg and retired in 1997 due to declining health. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, her flowers, dancing, and had a great love for life. Norma fought many brave battles against her illnesses and was an inspiration to all those who knew her.

Survivors include two sons, Claud "Robby" Dean Jr. and wife, Londia, of Elkton, and Tony Allen Dean and friend, Michele, of Mount Jackson; three daughters, Susan Michelle Rion and husband, Greg, of Elkton, Belinda Dean Sites and husband, Gary, of McGaheysville and Rhonda Lynn Gooden and husband, Robert, of Elkton; eight grandchildren, Bryan Dean Sites, Stacy Michelle Shifflett and husband, Alan, Deena Rae Rion, Robert Allen Dean, Anthony Scott Dean, Cristi Jo Sites, Brandon Michael Gooden and Heather Nicole Gooden; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Alan Shifflett and Ryleigh Malynn Shifflett; one brother, David Thacker of Timberville; and two sisters, Barbara Shoemaker of Harrisonburg and Peggy Heatwole of Pleasant Valley.

The funeral service was held on Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Blue Ridge Independent Church in Elkton with Pastors Brad Lewis and Gerald Meeks officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
