Biography

Jesse was born in 1810 at Cumberland Co NC, the son of Cornelius and Susannah (Carver) Thames.

He migrated as a young child with his parents to Monroe Co AL and by 1850 moved to neighboring Conecuh Co AL. Like his father and grandfather before him, Jesse was a Baptist minister.

1830 - Jesse married Mary A E Broughton by 1830, when he was enumerated at Monroe Co AL, age range 15-19, one female <5, one female 15-19.[1]

1840 - Jesse was enumerated on the 1840 census at Monroe Co AL.[2]

1850 - Jesse Thames was enumerated at Conecuh Co AL, age 40, born NC. In the household are his wife Mary A E, five daughters and four sons.[3]

On 1 Nov 1858, Jesse Thames was awarded a land grant in Conecuh Co, the N1/2 SW1/4 Section 2 in Township 4 Range 13 E, 83 66/100 acres, certificate no. 22479.[4] This land is located northwest of Brooklyn on County Road 43 just north of Old Horseshoe Road.

1860 - Jesse is enumerated with his wife and six of his children on the 1860 census at Conecuh Co AL. His real estate is valued at $1,000 and personal estate is valued at $875.[5]

On the 1870 census, he is living at Old Town in Conecuh Co, where his wife Mary's real estate is valued at $720, and her personal property is valued at $1,000.[6]

Jesse died 25 Nov 1872 and is buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, Buckatunna, Wayne Co MS.
