Biography

Joseph was born about 1758. He is the son of Joseph Thames and Martha Newberry. He passed away about 1819. [1]

Joseph made his will 28 Feb 1818, probated Sep 1819 Cumberland Co. NC. Names Hannah Thames, wife, as widow of Needham Gause (son Bryant Gause). He states in his will, "If either Elizabeth McAlester or John Thames Gilmore (grandson) dies without issue then to brother William Thames' children: David Thames, Cornelius Thames, William Thames, James Thames, Ann Wiggins, Martha Cooper & Lucy Newberry". Elizabeth McAlester is his daughter; Stephen Gilmore was the husband of daughter Mary (Molly) Thames Gilmore, deceased. Joseph Thames is buried in the Thames - McAllister Cemetery along with his daughters and wife Sarah. Tombstone proves date of birth and death.

Notes for SARAH GAUSE: Sarah Gause Thames is proved by her Will written in Brunswick Co. NC 1779 in which she names her husband Joseph Thames. This Will is witnessed by Wm. Gause, Needham Gause and wife Hannah Gause.
