Biography

Col. John was born about 1770. He is the son of Joseph Thames and Anonymous Newberry. He passed away about 1832. [1]

He was married to Ann "Nancy" Reeves, as evidenced by her father's will.

John's death announcement appeared in the 10 Apr 1832 issue of the Fayetteville Weekly Observer: "Died, At his residence in this County, on the 26th ult., Col. John Thames, aged 62 years."[2] His death is also recorded in his aunt Marcy (Thames) Jackson's bible, "Col John Thames Departed this Life the 26 March 1832."

Children were: Sarah Thames Wright (1796-) Nathaniel Thames (1800-) John Thames Jr (1803-1860) Ann Thames Clark (1805-)
