Cornelius Thayer was baptized at St. Mary's Church, Thornbury, Gloucestshire, England, December 10, 1640.[1]
The very legible parish register listed his father as Robert Tayer (or Thayer, the spellings are considered interchangeable), not Richard Thayer[2]
Weighed against this are two factors:
No record of a Robert Thayer is found in Thornbury (marriage or baptism) that would provide such a father, see Stott and other sources from parents of this profile
Cornelius' 1663 probate in Massachusetts listed Richard & Zachariah, executors of his estate, explicitly as his brothers[3]
On balance, it seems most likely Cornelius was a son of Richard & Dorothy; very possibly her death about a month after his birth was related to childbirth.
