Benjamin was born at Braintree, Massachusetts, on 4 October 1683, a son of Richard Thayer. As an adult he resided on Middle Street in Braintree, 
Benjamin Thayer was married to Margaret Curtis in Braintree, Massachusetts, on August 17, 1704. They were the parents of three children, all born in Braintree:

Benjamin Thayer died on 4 May 1712. His widow, Margaret Thayer, administered the estate of Benjamin Thayer, husbandman, on 26 December 1712. His inventory included a house and barn, six acres, out lands, a nursery, and trees set out.
