Biography

François was born on 22 December 1771 at Rivière Saint-Jean and baptized at birth by Nicolas Lisotte, a "Canadien". He was baptized with full ceremony on 4 September 1774 in Ristigouche. ^[1] He was the son of Joseph Theriot and Marie-Josèphe Girouard.^[2]

On 22 June 1795, in Caraquet, New Brunswick he married Scholastique Haché, daughter of René Haché dit Gallant and Marguerite Blanchard.^[3]

François passed away on 13 June 1865 in Caraquet and was buried on the 15th.

Research Notes

Discrepancy: Bona Arsenault shows him as being born at Grand Pré, while Fidèle Thériault indicates Rivière St-Jean. Marcel W Landry also says Riviere St. Jean. There was no Acadie after 1763, location changed to Colony of New Brunswick.

Possible son: Jean-Baptiste Thériault I was given a print-out (third-hand) from Ancestry that, together with the reference from genealogie-acadienne, would indicate that his is the son of Francois Theriault and Scholastiue Hache dit Gallant. However, I have no primary source for his birth or marriage - if his parents are named - that would confirm that. He would have been born in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec.Denise Chiasson
