"Joseph Roy THERIOT, Sr., son of Aurilie [sic] & Editha ROY, was born and grew up in a home under spreading oaks, still lived in today. The family had extensive sugar plantation holdings on both sides of Bayou du Large. Roy left home to become a pharmacist, breaking a four-generation tradition of sugar cane planting."[2]
He died on February 25, 1953 in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, California. An unattributed obituary scan from a newspaper published online states he was a former Vermilion parish druggist and school board member and died at 6pm in Santa Monica at the home of his son Dr. Roy J. Theriot, Jr. where he and Leontine had been living for the past two years. Survivors listed are: his widow Leontine LaCasse; two sons: Dr. Roy J. Theriot of Santa Monica and Alfred J. Theriot of New Orleans; three daughters: Mrs. H. A. McEnery of Lacombe, Mrs. Keller Griffith of Lake Charles and Mrs. Francis Fisher of Guatemala; two sisters Miss Chloe Theriot and Mrs. Martha Toups of Houma; a brother, Clay Theriot of Morgan City and twenty grandchildren. His body was transported to Abbeville for burial in the "New Catholic cemetery",[3] He was buried at Saint Mary Magdalen Cemetery and Mausoleum; Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, USA[4]
